I have been busy
So yeah, if you haven’t been able to tell I have been fairly busy. Actually I went through a fairly large change in my career. I moved from development to IT Support. I still do a little bit of coding on the job and at home but my main focus is keeping the servers and network running.
It has been an on-the-job learning experience. I have to say that while I enjoy the simplicity of administering Microsoft servers their lack of flexibility and in consistency makes me batty.
I ran in a hill race about three weeks ago. I didn’t feel I was fully prepared for it but as it turned out I did a whole lot better than I was anticipating. I averaged a 9:11/mile pace, not terribly fast but I have been steadily getting better. I am registered to run in a 5-miler tomorrow but I am going to skip it since we finally have plumbing in our bathroom and putting floor down supersedes my hobby.
After the new year it will be time to start to get back into fighting condition to run in the half-marathon again. I ran a 2:08:00 last year, this year I will be shooting for a 1:55:00. I figure that shaving a minute off every mile for a pace of an 8:46 mile. Woohoo!
Of new jobs and missed runs
I think the stress of posting for the BlogDay 2007 was so great I needed a little bit off to rest and recoup. Yeah, right, no seriously, I have just forgotten to post with an frequency. I know some people that just post multiple times a day on what ever they feel like, but I feel I need _SOMETHING_ to talk about that I have a few feelings for.
I started a new job this week and I have been loving it. The main problem has been that I have needed to start waking up earlier and I have been missing all my morning runs as a result. I am going to have to find a new time to get my runs in, which will probably mean just getting up earlier.
Oh, and for those that are wondering, I am sure there are alot of you too..
You can’t set the Content-Type on a mailx command in unix, if you want to do it you need to use sendmail -t and manually specify the Content-Type header in your file. I must have spent an hour looking for that..
Fluffy the dog
A little over a year ago I took up running. Just a little at first, I did a 5K and a 4 mile race, then I gradually moved up to a half marathon. Anyway, I like to run mainly as a stress reliever, I am generally in a better mood when I run the majority of the week. But there is always one thing that bothers the heyall out of me when I run in the mornings or the evenings (which is when I run about 90% of the time). If you are going to let Fluffy the 300 pound Rottweiler frolic and prance with out his leash, please be sure of 3 things;
1. your fence goes all the way around your yard,
2. the fence is a great deal taller than 15 inches and,
3. the fence can withstand roughly the equivalent of a water buffalo hitting it at full stride.
Seriously, nothing turns a relaxing evening jog into a frenzied night-sprint faster than being chased by a snarling drooling monstrosity of a canine that wants nothing more than to make a meal out of my femur.
