A geocaching we will go..

I have been reading alot about Geocaching lately and I have really wanted to try it. So I borrowed my Dad’s Garmin GPS V and headed out with the family on our first cache hunt last night. (Yes, I know, I am a total geek, my wife reminds me pretty regular). We didn’t find the cache but we did have a lot of fun trapsing around the town with the boys. I went back to the spot where the coordinates marked the cache in the morning before work and found the cache! It was right under my nose the whole time.

We are headed out tonight possibly to find two more that are pretty close. We will have to take some pictures when we find the next ones.

Did you ever take a look at this GPS?

I used to have that GPS before I lost in Las Vegas at Defcon. It was great for keeping a group in sync while geocaching or general exploration.

I found only one geocache while I had my GPS. It was a little difficult to find given the accuracy of GPS. When the cache is in an area covered in leaves 3-5 meters off can still make things difficult.

No, I wanted to see if I would actually like Geocaching before I dropped any money on a GPS. I have to say that I have really been enjoying it, I will probably look to try and finagle one for my birthday (09-05).

Finding the caches once I was within 10 feet has been the most difficult task thus far. Two of the three I have gone after have been micro’s so they are especially difficult to spot. I usually end up going back second time after giving up the first.
