Let it begin

Alright, I have been thinking about this way too long. I have wanted to be part of an open source project for as long as I can remember. I have tried a couple, but I never seems to be able to make any headway and help out at all. Usually right as I was beginning to get a grasp on the source someone would submit a major change and I would have to try and figure out everything they changed.

So I started my own project, unofficially named JHulk. Its going to be a Java-based gamed based off of the Second Edition rules of the Games Workshop game SpaceHulk. For starters I have to say that I really have NO idea what I am doing. No seriously, I have no idea. I just learned what double buffering is today and I only have a shaky concept of how it works. I have been developing web apps since I started programming, so desktop apps are new to me. This is as much of a learning experience as it is something I have wanted to do for a long time.

So far I have laid the ground work for a screen manager to help handle the basic stuff that needs to happen to handle resolutions, depth, and full screen vs windowed. Its all pretty interesting so far, but seriously confusing as I am still very new to THIS aspect of Java.

More to come…
